| A Unique School for Street Children |
|
| Street Girls Aid operates a one-year preparatory class for children between eight and twelve years old who have either dropped out or never attended school. Most of the children are not enrolled in school because their parents are unable to afford the price of school uniforms or they feel their time would be better utilized earning money on the street. The program serves forty-five children who are given the opportunity to go back to school. A trained teacher and social worker prepare the children and ensure their admittance into primary school. Virtually all the children who enter the program continue their education in the public education system. The social worker is responsible for locating an appropriate school upon completion of the program and S.Aid provides basic school materials if the family can not afford to purchase them. |
